After you bought your favorite bagged mulches from the gardening store, it is time to apply them to your flower beds. To provide a better protection for your plants, the height of the mulch layer should be no less than 5 inches. This thickness can effectively keep the soil cool in summer and warm in winter days. Also, weed growth can be greatly depressed as well. Since the bottom layer of the mulch will decompose quickly, you need to apply some extra ones on the top to make compensation.
