My New York City apartment is getting a badly needed kitchen renovation. I've torn out the old cabinets and appliances and replaced them with new cabinets, counters, refrigerator and a sink from Ikea along with a new stove, microwave range hood, and a dishwasher from Sears. I now have all the doors, drawers, and counter tops in place and it looks like a kitchen again. But, there's still a lot of little things left to do...
This wave of the project is focused on the basics and the electrical work. I wanted to dress things up with a tile backsplash, a new floor, and some under-cabinet task lighting, but it now looks like this baby will be going on the market once the kitchen is finished - we won't even get to put the dishes in the cabinets.
The progress to this point was made in small steps. I would make a few cuts with the saw in the morning before leaving for work and then spend the evening fitting together the parts together. I also spent a lot of time in the hardware store working out the plumbing components I needed to get the sink hooked up.
Getting the water going in the sink was a big milestone for the project. Even with all the work that remains, I can start to use the kitchen a little (no more rinsing dishes in the bathroom sink!)
Slowly but surely the kitchen renovation is coming to a close. For a variety of reasons it's taking a long time to finish the work, but it's getting closer.
Next comes the hot water hook-ups and the dishwasher...
